Two modern suspension bridges ...gateways to two very different worlds

The Prince of Wales Bridge
The Prince of Wales Bridge

We left Wales early on Saturday morning , crossing the Prince of Wales suspension bridge which spans the River Severn, under a pall of rain. Clouds followed us for most of the way, until early on Sunday evening we approached the final stage of our journey home to France.

The stark limestone cliffs of the 'Gorges de la Jonte' dominated the road ahead, while in the distance we could see the elegant white struts of the Millau suspension bridge leading us towards home. Dusk was approaching. As if making a desperate attempt to escape the clutches of night, the low sun broke through the cloud cover. Suddenly the cliffs which ran from east to west in front of us were bathed in late evening sunshine ... a fitting welcome to the land that we have made our home.
